Uh Oh! Here Comes Lanny...

I got a nasty surprise when I turned on my television set this morning. So nasty, in fact, that as quickly as I turned it on, I turned it right off again.

There in all his grinning from ear-to-ear glory was Lanny Davis being interviewed by someone I didn't recognize. It seems Lanny has written a book called (of all things) Scandal: How "Gotcha" Politics Is Destroying America.

Lanny Davis would certainly know about Scandal AND "Gotcha" politics since he spent the latter part of the 1990's becoming one of the lead apologists for the Clintons. Lanny showed up on every talk show that would have him and cried, besought, and downright begged the American people not to think badly of Willie Clinton because Willie couldn't keep his you-know-what tucked in his briefs. Lanny blew any credibility he may have had for himself by defending the indefensible: a President whose extra-curricular activities included spraying a blue dress in the Oval office during the midst of a blow job.

Lanny seems to have even more in common with the Clintons than I thought. Just as they will not go away, neither will Lanny.

Apparently Lanny's book, Scandal, is an evaluation of both Democrat and Republican scandals and how both sides are at fault for never letting up on the verbal attacks against each other. Lanny wants that to stop. But that's not all Lanny wants.

According to the reviews I've read of Lanny's book, he makes a convincing argument for bringing back civility to public discourse. If only he'd stopped there, BUT, alas, he just couldn't do it. No, Lanny has to make one run at rehabilitating the reputations of the Clintons. For God's sake, why? They are what they are, we've long ago figured out the meaning of "Is", now could we just get on with whatever comes next and forget about the Clintons completely?

How can Lanny Davis possibly expect the public to move on from one of the biggest scandals in political history when the chief players in that scandal will not have the grace and the sense God gave them to sit down and STFU? It seems to me that while Lanny Davis was willing and able to play the Clinton's personal stooge in the late 1990's, he's also willing to pick up that mantle yet again and begin paving the way for Hillary in 2008.

Get the barf bags; I'm afraid Scandal is only the beginning.
