Good Riddance to Isaiah Washington
Finally! And I'm not really sure that this is case of better late than never, but FINALLY ABC has decided to fire Isaiah Washington.
It is being reported, that Washington has not been invited back for another season of Grey's Anatomy, and Isaiah Washington himself is quoted as saying ""I’m mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore." The guy is nothing if not unoriginal.
I think ABC could have found a much better way to handle all of this. I mean, even now that they've fired Washington, their reasons swerve sharply away from what the issues are surrounding him in the public eye. Instead of firing him because he used unacceptable slurs to categorize a co-worker while physically attacking another co-worker during the same incident, ABC has made it known that they weren't happy with the negative publicity his behavior brought to the show, and they also cited him as causing a strained atmosphere on the Grey's Anatomy set. I don't see anything in there stating clearly that his behavior and attitudes are unacceptable to both ABC and to the rest of the cast of Grey's Anatomy. But then that would have stated the matter in unequivocal terms; something ABC seems unwilling to do.
After the dreadful season ending Grey's Anatomy used to keep us all on tenterhooks over the Summer, it was doubtful that I'd hang in there for another season. Firing Washington now is rather anticlimactic and doesn't change a decision I'd already made. So in spite of the fact that ABC has finally brought itself around to doing the right thing, it's too late. Good riddance to Isaiah Washington, and in my opinion, to Grey's Anatomy as well.
