Do NOT Get Hurt In Wichita, Kansas
Do not, repeat NOT, go to Wichita, Kansas, if you have the slightest inkling that you may become ill or hurt or attacked or in some way need assistance from the citizenry there. They will not help you. They may take your picture, or step over you if you happen to be blocking their passage as they go about their business, but help you? Never happen.
Consider the story of LaShanda Calloway who was stabbed and lay dying on the floor of a convenience store. Five shoppers, count 'em FIVE stepped over her to continue their shopping. One of the five stopped to take her picture with a cell phone.
It took someone roughly two minutes to call 911 for assistance. LaShanda Calloway later died at a hospital.
LaShanda Calloway was stabbed as part of an altercation that took place in the convenience store. The event was not part of a robbery. A 19 year old woman has been charged for first degree homicide in the Calloway case, and another suspect turned himself in but to date has not been charged. It is unclear whether any of those who stepped over LaShanda to continue shopping for snacks can be charged with any crime in this incident. Laws pertaining to failure to render aid to victims concern automobile accidents only.
While it could be noted that 5 people do not make up the entire citizenry of Wichita, Kansas, so why stay away from that city completely? Because I wouldn't want to take the chance of becoming unable to help myself in the presence of 5 more like-minded individuals. In this case it isn't merely one bad apple that turns the rest. In this case it's 5 rotten apples with who knows how many others who are spoiled inside the exact same way.
The details of the altercation which took place in that convenience store which eventually led to LaShanda Calloway's death were not noted in any report of the incident I read. But when a stabbing occurs, I think it is safe to say that by-standers would want to remove themselves as far as possible from the scene. And most people, when they observe a crime of some sort immediately think of calling law enforcement often while maintaining that they do not wish to be involved in the incident. That's understandable. Stepping over a dying woman and then photographing her while continuing to shop for snacks is so far out of the realm of understanding it defies explanation.
Rest in peace LeShanda Calloway.

I came by to say hello, and to thank you for your kind words on my blog.
I live about an hour from Wichita, and when I have to make the trip over there I dread it horribly. The amount of crime is insane there, the traffic and the way people drive is crazy - and dangerous. Unfortunately, I sometimes have to take my Dad to the VA hospital there, and lemme tellya - it is truly full of people who just don't care about other people. I always worry that someone is going to shoot at my car. Not only should you not get hurt there, but never never run out of gas there either!
That is horrendous, I'd like to think If I am laying stabbed on the floor some bastage would have the decency to call 911 fast like.
Here via "Greg's Brain", had to check out someone who uses "manky" as a name, one of my favorite words to use that is.
Hey Michael! Manky is a neckname for Ma Titwonky or at least that's what the nickname generator gave me when I fed this name into it. How do you use "manky"?
